Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar Temple

Located on the port road, near Kotahena junction and St Andrew’s Church, this temple - or ‘kovil’ - is made entirely of South Indian granite. Dating to 1857, its construction and design are entirely different from any other Hindu temple found in the city. It is named after a patriot who lost his life in Sri Lanka’s independence struggle. The 6am pooja at the temple is well worth a visit for those looking to appreciate both the architecture and the spirituality of the temple.
